We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate Publisher (m/f/o) to support the strategic and operational development of our international journal portfolio.
If you enjoy working closely with research communities, thrive in a dynamic, data‑driven environment, and want to contribute to high‑quality, impactful scholarly publishing, this is an exciting opportunity to become part of a truly global team shaping the future of Science at Thieme.
This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual to be part of a strategically relevant unit and contribute to the development of best-in-class and scalable projects in a rapidly evolving scientific publishing landscape. As an Associate Publisher, you will be a trusted operational partner for editors, societies, and internal stakeholders. You will ensure that journal‑level strategies are implemented effectively, help maintain publishing quality and performance, and support the development of profitable and community‑driven journals.
You will collaborate closely with the Executive Publisher, deputizing when required, and coordinating essential activities across Editorial, Production, Marketing, PRS/JEO teams, and external partners.
Your new passion
- Portfolio Support: Support the execution of journal‑level strategies defined by the Executive Publisher, ensuring high service standards, policy compliance, and alignment with the overall Thieme Science strategy.
- Journal development: Coordinate and implement commissioning activities—including themed issues—working closely with guest editors, Editorial Office teams, production, and marketing to ensure timely, high‑quality content delivery.
- Quality and improvement: Continuous quality management and improvement on journal level regarding decisions on resources and service standards. Maintain publishing quality, ethics and standards including but not limited to research integrity and publishing policies.
- Performance management: Ensure that KPIs are regularly monitored, reported and met, and that action is taken as needed. Take a data led approach to portfolio management and development in line with the Thieme Science strategic objectives.
- Editorial Board Engagement: Prepare and coordinate Editorial Board meetings, including drafting presentations, analyzing journal data, creating storylines, documenting minutes, defining actions, and tracking follow‑ups.
- Data & Performance Monitoring: Pull, harmonize, evaluate, and prepare journal performance data for internal and external use; present insights in Editorial Board settings and support actions to maintain or improve KPIs.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination: Act as a key liaison between internal teams (production, marketing, customer support, OA support, sales, PRS/JEO) and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth operations and consistent implementation of agreed strategies.
- Operational Ownership: Coordinate system configuration changes (e.g., PRS), support society or business RFP processes, and help maintain visibility and promotion of published articles.
- Representation & Collaboration: Represent the journal and Thieme in professional settings (e.g., conferences or meetings) when aligned with Group 1 roles, and deputize for Publishers in their absence.
- Quality & Integrity: Support end‑to‑end journal performance management, ensuring adherence to publishing policies, ethical standards, and operational workflows that uphold publication quality.
