We are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Journal Development Editors (m/f/o) to join the global Thieme Science business unit.  
You are eager to support shaping our journal portfolios and growing our journal business strategically. 
You want to play an active role facilitating our Thieme Science strategy, supporting our journal portfolios together with great colleagues. 
You have an innovative mindset and describe yourself as a team player and problem solver with strong interpersonal skills and experience in scientific publishing and open access ecosystem.

Your new passion

  • Supporting the Executive and Senior Publisher in developing and managing the existing journals’ portfolio, and in new launches or the acquisition of new international medical sciences journals. 
  • Acquisition of high-quality content via the implementation of journal commissioning plans.
  • Ensuring the journal’s performance along defined targets and KPIs 
    Managing administrative tasks, e.g. invoices, meeting invitations, and contracts. 
  • Maintain publishing quality, ethics and standards including but not limited to research integrity and policies. 
  • Main contact person for our editors and authors when it comes to managing themed issues and timelines, supporting and steering the editorial office as well as organizing, preparing and supporting Editorial Board Meetings.
  • Conducting market observations and supporting the Publisher in data analysis and reports to secure a data-driven approach relevant for managing journals. 
  • Enforcing set strategies, setting up activities, and prioritizing accordingly with external (Editorial Boards) and internal stakeholders (e.g. PRS, JEO, production and marketing ,.. ). 
  • Representing the journal and the Thieme group e.g. at conferences, meetings or awards, receptions.  
  • Supporting social media activities e.g. managing different media channels, setting up newsletters or updating websites.  

You inspire us with this

  • PhD or master's degree preferably in life sciences or medicine with at least 2-3 years of experience in journal publishing 
  • Proven track record and experience in the area of journal development in the 
    international academic publishing industry, ideally in an open access environment  
  • Data-driven mindset and experience in working with KPIs 
  • Excellent communications skills in English, written and spoken; German would be a bonus 
  • You have an above-average degree of self-organization as well as sovereign time and schedule management skills 
  • Strongly collaborative team worker, comfortable with co-ownership of shared goals and with a high level of personal accountability 
  • You have excellent Microsoft Office and other relevant software skills  
  • You are highly motivated and willing and able to travel
